Mixed messages -OR- Just say MAYBE to Drugs

Happy Black Friday!

Wall to wall "coverage" of the Black Friday inanity at malls, supercenters, outlets and piglets. As 1000s shoppers camp out to get one of 4 GPS systems? Dire predictions of a down retail season? Retailers' "strategy" to turn chicken shit into chicken salad? "Well, gas is down to $1.90 a gallon. We have to figure out how to capture their savings."???

I'd ask how stupid they think we are, but they say not to ask questions to which you're not gonna like the answer. Are we? We must be. Every morning NEWS show made only brief mention of the nightmare in Bombay. That, only when they could squeeze it into their on-air plugging of the sales at Gidget's Gadget Emporium, Goober's House of Suckers and Fool's Paradise. Of course they used footage and live shots of Big Box stores bustling with activity. "Will it translate into good news for the retail numbers?" Really? That's the pressing question of the day? Tomorrow you will return to asking what's gone wrong here? Do the networks dissect "game film"?

In their prime huckster mode, they "reported" on product, price, location, terms, and tips for "smart shopping". What is saddest is that it is gobbled up as helpful wisdom. Evidently enough of us are that gullible.
