Irony on Parade -OR- 60 Minutes/CBS Newsbreak Symmetry

Opportunity abounds in these time of societal uncertainty that the sounds and images emanating from our enhanced digital signal processing idiot boxes mesh in jarring ways. Irony. The commercial following the latest dismal financial news is for a bankruptcy attorney or an investment brokerage. Oh well, that's the way the mop flops.

Last night's 60 minutes segment on UMC Las Vegas and the cuts it has been "forced" to make because of the recession. Cuts that have left cancer patients without treatment, eliminated pre-natal care, kicked the un-insured to the curb... to address a projected $51 million deficit. Who were then shocked by a $21 Million cut in Medicare/Medicaid payments. A $72 Million hole! Oh my!

"We'll be right back after a word from our sponsors."
After the obligatory commericals for Cialis and Prilosec, we were treated to a CBS Newsbreak. Yada yada Final Four yada yada and then "FAST AND THE FURIOUS won the weekend box office with $72 Million in ticket sales".

Do the media cause our societal A.D.D. or just report it?
At what point does a harmless diversion become a national disgrace?
Perhaps when the mega-Million$$$ Country Music Circle Jerk Orgasmatron
promos and subsequent Awards orgy provides the cherry and nuts on the top?
