Cakewalks on a tightrope OR Driftglass hits the gyroball

Shred, shred, shred.
Sitting in the noodle pile, I've had a fractal work that was missing something.
Somebody was bound to beat me to the punch. I'm relieved that it was Drifty.

The unasked question we dare not speak. The grit on the eyeball of this election.
That the best REproblican campaign strategy is embodied in the Demoncratic candidate himself. Say no more, nudge nudge, wink wink. That every dollar Obama spends putting his face in front of the people, contains an unknown fraction that works to elect his opponent. Is it negligible? Has America grown up?

Will enough voters NOT vote for Barrack Obama because there's just something about him? Some undefined something they can't put into words... "you know, I just couldn't."

Election 2008 will be a referendum on race. Watershed or dam busting. You simply can't say that this election will be won or lost on platform.

I'm velocitized to Driftglass being quicker on the draw than me. I'm in awe of his ability to distill, refine and nail his subject matter.

Read it and weep.
The Straight Juice from Driftglass

Because the prevailing model of the Universe at the time was fundamentally flawed (presumed to be static, not expanding), when Albert Einstein first tried to apply his general theory of relativity to the Universe\, the results thoroughly freaked him out (Universe collapsing! Cats and dogs living together!)

So, being a clever man, Einstein invented a kind of mathematical fairy dust -- a “cosmological constant” -- which, when factored into the equation, made everything come out ever so much nicer and less Armageddonish. Einstein later dropped the whole idea and acknowledged that it had been his biggest blunder.

In this election, the predictive model we use to explain our cultural Universe is also deeply warped. Warped by race. Race is, yet again, the 17-ton mastodon in the room, but continues to scud and swirl quietly around the dark corners of American political discourse like errant dust bunnies.

And so the media develops a suite of “Negrological Constants” to explain what is happening in the polls without having to face the reality that we are not a post-racial society.

Woot! Atta Boy! Really! Read the whole damn thing. TWICE if needed.

We're going all in. High stakes shit. Now we find out who has the upper hand.
Come November we'll know for sure.
